Content will be king in media mergers, says ACCC

Proposed mergers of media companies will be assessed closely on how much any deal would affect competition for news stories and the effect of diversity of published opinion as much as the advertising market, says competition czar Rod Sims.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is expected to release new guidelines on Wednesday governing media company mergers in the first such update in more than a decade.
